Step 1

Download and extract:

q2-r1q2.zip

*For Windows*
*Contains everything you need to play!*

*Please read carefully.*

The following Quake II components are included:

Quake II v3.20 (Demo version) + Multiplayer + CTF
R1Q2 - Enhanced Quake II Engine
R1GL - Enhanced OpenGL Driver
Anticheat - Anti-cheat system
  • Use SinglePlayerDemo.bat to start Quake II Single Player Demo mode.
  • Use r1q2.exe to start up multiplayer followed by "connect serverip:port" in console.
  • Remember to create an autoexec.cfg in the baseq2 folder to set items like your name.
  • If you have a full version of Quake II already installed, simply copy over your autoexec.cfg and your pak files (all of them) from and to the respective baseq2 folders.
On machines with poor video cards, try choosing 'Default OpenGL' as the video driver from the Quake II menu in game.  This can resolve performance issues.

IMPORTANT:
Some Antivirus apps may detect ANTICHEAT.DLL as a Trojan or malware, this is FALSE.  Instruct your Antivirus to ignore or whitelist this DLL.

OPTIONAL:
If your machine can handle running R1GL as the video driver (from the Quake II Menu) with no issues, consider installing the High Resolution Paks.

Note: If you are using an operating system other than Windows, check our Clients download area.  Clients are available for Linux and Mac OS.

Step 2

Install the map pak!

quake2lithiumdotcom_mappak_v1_0.zip Version:1.0
The official map pak for Quake2Lithium.com servers, including Vanilla, Mutant, and Railz. Download and extract to your baseq2 folder.  If you are not running R1Q2, you will need to rename the extracted file to pakX.pak where X is a number.

Check back often to ensure you have the latest version!

Step 4

Come and play!!! Start up using r1q2.exe and type connect server:port in console.  Check our Servers section for a list of Lithium servers with hostname or IP, and port.

Runes (appear as pyramid shaped entities):

  • Strength (Red) You inflict 2x damage
  • Resist (Blue) You take 1/2 damage
  • Haste (Yellow) You fire twice as fast
  • Regen (Green) Your health regenerates slowly
  • Vampire (Purple) You gain health for damage inflicted

The command "drop rune" in the console will cause you to drop the rune you are currently carrying. You can pick up the rune that you have just dropped.
